Morgan – The English Enigma: The Vintage and Classic Years

Morgan – The English Enigma: The Vintage and Classic Years

This books tells the amazing story of the Morgan Motor Company, from the primitive, but very successful cyclecars of Edwardian times, through to the iconic British sports cars of the Classic period in the 1960s. Morgan defied conventions, survived economic hardships, resisted take-over bids and carried on in its inimitable way, hand-crafting ‘proper’ cars out of the historic row of workshops in the spa town of Malvern. Morgan – An English Enigma takes an in-depth look at the Morgan Motor Company during the Vintage and Classic periods, benefitting from access to previously unseen documents and drawings, and featuring 500 images, over half of which have never before been published. This fascinating story will appeal to those with an interest in motoring history, the motor sport enthusiast and anyone who appreciates fine British sports cars.

Porsche Artifacts

Porsche Artifacts

Take an unparalleled view into the secretive rooms of the Porsche Corporate Archives with Artifacts, a comprehensive and artistic insight into the historic items, vehicles, and human stories that have made Porsche what it is today.

Presented by Type 7 and published by ERG Media with Edition Porsche Museum, Artifacts is an abstract, artful perspective with dramatic lighting and high resolution photography. Each item is carefully explored by photographer and lead creative Thomas Walk, focusing on the textures, patina, and history contained within each piece.

Photographed on location in Zuffenhausen, thousands of historical pieces have been curated to a meaningful selection, exploring the full scope of the Archives. Encompassing Porsche family items, equipment from Porsche design and development, Porsche Museum cars, and never seen before glimpses of the Archives.

Spanning across 356 pages, the large-format coffee table book accompanies its photography with a separate pull-out index which tells the story behind each item. The result is a reader experience which evokes that of an archivist exploring the physical history of Porsche.

The team at ERG Media focused heavily on an uncompromising approach to packaging, collaborating with Andy Cruz of House Industries to create a tactile experience which mirrors the feeling of the items captured within, including a bespoke font. Arriving wrapped in a paper design with elements in homage to Porsche 911 Turbo design blueprints, once unwrapped, readers will find an archive box, complete with reinforced metal corners. After breaking a seal, the book’s red slipcase is revealed; inspired by racing pedigree and the thousands of document folders that line the shelves of the Archives. Readers slowly unravel the book as a physical experience, unwinding a string and eventually finding a trove of photographs and information within.

A Life In Range Rover

A Life In Range Rover

Fifty five incredible years, five superb generations and so many incredible advertisements essential catalogs and stories that have marked its history. Discover the history of the Range Rover like you’ve never read it before! Welcome to ‘A Life in Range Rover’, the first book to tell the Range Rover adventure through its advertisements, catalogs and never tell stories I like Range Rovers, I’ve had several and I still have an L322 and a Classic. They are the only vehicles that I bought, then regretted having sold and therefore bought back, “ j’aime Range Rover”. I like the very quirky and so British humor that remains attached to all Range advertising campaigns. Finally, it is so rare and so pleasant, as a consumer, that advert speak to you as an intelligent person, able to appreciate a message delivered on several levels of understanding! This is unfortunately very unusual on the part of car manufacturers. As often, this book is the realization of a to make the book that I would have liked to find in bookstores. There aren’t many books on the Range Rover and the ones that do exist are recycling pictures seen everywhere and press photos. This is why I tried to find a maximum of unpublished and, as much as possible, international advertisements, essential catalogs of its history and of course stories of Range Rover. François Bouet has been an automotive journalist for 18 years, He was assisted by a Solihull fan, Martine Rénier (Auto Hebdo journalist, Paris Match, four participations in the Dakar including one with Range, 12th at the 24 hours of Le Mans) for the validation of the French part. It is another owner of Range, Roger Ellis, Franco-English, professional translator and automotive expert, to whom we owe the synthesis of the English version.

BIZZARRINI – The last romantic car constructor

BIZZARRINI – The last romantic car constructor

Preface by Giampaolo Dallara and Mauro Forghieri

Giotto Bizzarrini, engineer from Livorno, was born in 1926. Personal note number one: in 1964 he designed and built the Bizzarrini Grifo 5300 GT, a supercar before its time, in small series, and of indescribable fascination and appeal. This chapter of his long working life would be sufficient for a study in itself, full of incredible stories, testimonies and exciting photographs. All this however is part of the book “Bizzarrini”, which offers much more. The Italian engineering genius, with a creative and genuine character, has actually linked his name to an infinity of projects that have gone down in history. Giotto is the creator of the Ferrari 250 GTO, probably the most celebrated car of all time.
He himself tells how the famous model was born, in a “top secret” department of Ferrari, helped by the mechanic Prampolini and the tinsmith Agnani.

After five years at Ferrari, he worked independently, always with important and attractive projects. In order: a 12-cylinder engine for Lamborghini, collaboration with Scuderia Serenissima (on the creation of the “anti-Ferrari GTO”, the famous berlinetta called the “Breadvan” due to its unusual line), projects for Iso Rivolta (top-level GT car) and for ASA (the famous “Ferrarina”) and the creation of the Bizzarrini brand, which was also involved in high-level racing. After the closure of his company (an excellent technician, he was not cut out for economic aspects, but this is a story within a story), he continued to work on major projects, until 2006. When he turned 80 he retired from the scene.

The book (full of photographic documents but also of “current” images, relating to perfectly restored or preserved cars) tells the entire story of Giotto Bizzarrini, with the testimonies of those who worked with him.

A fitting tribute to a great Italian genius.

THE FERRARI OF FURIA

THE FERRARI OF FURIA

Always brilliant and clever, the engineer Mauro Forghieri seemed like a man out of time.
To enable a wider audience of enthusiasts to discover the fundamental role the engineer played at Maranello, from 1960 to 1987, we offer the story of his memories, which he himself dictated.

The history of Ferrari, as told directly by the engineer Mauro Forghieri, protagonist of the most exciting period of events linked to the Prancing Horse manufacturer.
It starts from the unpublished “Characteristic note” of June 1960, a sort of “report card” (with evaluations in Intelligence, Attitudes, Discipline, Attachment to Work, Culture), which concluded his three-month trial period, up to the resignation of the engineer himself on May 27, 1987, a year before the death of the legendary Maranello carmaker.
These were the years of great growth for Ferrari, the battle with Ford in endurance races, the legendary 312T taken to the highest level by Niki Lauda, the transition to turbo engines with Gilles Villeneuve. Numerous victories (54 world championship GPs and 11 Formula 1 Drivers and Constructors world titles), all with projects designed by engineer Forghieri, Ferrari’s “shadow man” and witness to everything that happened in the factory and on the racetracks.
An authentic Ferrari story, divided into forty-one chapters, unique because it was dictated and authorized by the renowned Italian engineer who sadly passed away on November 2, 2022.

The Amazing Denzel

The Amazing Denzel

Wolfgang Denzel was an engineer and an Austrian industrialist. He was an inventor, innovator, and a business maverick. He was also a highly competitive sportsman winning numerous motorcycle events before and after WWII. In addition, Denzel was a winning Alpine sports car racer and yachtsman.

In 1948 Denzel began building sports cars in his workshop in Vienna. Denzel was absolutely fanatical about the construction of the car that bore his name. Quality, functionality, and beauty dominated every aspect of the build. The resulting sports car was therefore an intriguing automotive object. On the one hand the cars were beautifully proportioned, elegant little jewel boxes with handsomely trimmed interiors; on the other they were lightweight, nimble racing weapons which recorded more than 65 podium finishes at the most competitive European events of the 1940s and 50s.

One of the true milestones of the marque was Wolfgang Denzel’s victory at the rugged multi-stage 1949 Österreichische Alpenfahrt (Austrian Alpine Rally) which was the highlight of the Austrian racing season. This victory was especially significant as Denzel won the Alpine Cup while trouncing rival Porsche. By 1954 a Denzel was competing in North America at Sebring. Racing legend Dan Gurney later piloted a Denzel 1500 to an impressive class win at Pomona in January 1957, convincing North American spectators that these machines were not only Alpine rally winners but also serious road racing competitors.

Our aim with this work was to write the definitive English language treatise on the history of the Denzel sports car. A secondary goal was to clarify common misconceptions about these wonderful machines.

In this book we, as Denzel owners and enthusiasts, celebrate the superbly hand-crafted machines of Wolfgang Denzel. His cars were, and remain, truly special with the majority having been built with Denzel chassis, engines, and aluminum bodies. These automobiles are quite beautiful and are highly intriguing from an aesthetic, engineering, and historical standpoint.

Porsche Carrera RS 50 YEARS 1972-2022

Porsche Carrera RS 50 YEARS 1972-2022

“Only 500 men will ever drive it”

This was the slogan that Porsche chose to advertise its new elite model, which, under the name Carrera RS, was supposed to change the course of history. The first 911 Carrera RS was a true stroke of genius on the part of Porsche: The car, only 500 units of which actually needed to be built for homologation purposes and which originally left the sales department far from convinced, turned into an unexpected sales hit. Within a very short time, the Carrera RS cemented its status as the dream car par excellence for sports car fans. Although the original, somewhat naive idea had been to only produce five hundred of these cars, in the end more than three times that number were made and sold. In the summer of 1973, production ended after 1,580 units had been made.

The new Carrera RS of the 964 generation became a worthy successor to the legend. Nevertheless, it took a full 18 years before the legitimate successor to the Carrera RS 2.7 was presented. Legendary Porsche racing engineer Roland Kussmaul tells us why it took so long in an exclusive interview.

The new Carrera RS of the 964 generation became the legitimate successor to the legend. The 964 RS needed no more than 260 hp to reach a top speed of 260 km/h. Again, more than twice as many vehicles as actually required were sold within a very short time.

The Porsche 993 RS became the last classic Carrera RS. The last classic 911 RS was presented in January 1995 . As far as many fans of the ‘Eleven were concerned, its attractive design crowned the 911 RS of the 993 generation as the most beautiful Carrera RS of all time. In this last air-cooled 911 RS, the engineers achieved a particularly harmonious synthesis of sportiness and comfort.

The Carrera RS book for the 50th birthday! The time has come to dedicate a book to the classic, air-cooled series of the 911-RS. In addition to detailed buying advice and price developments over the past few years, the book also includes an extensive technical and statistical section.

Porsche 959

Porsche 959

Porsche 959 has always been regarded as one of the most exceptional vehicles in automotive history: a technical marvel with its all-wheel drive, a refined biturbo engine, 450 PS and a top speed of 315 km/h – still breathtaking 30 years after its first roll-out.

The idea behind this tour de force was to build a Porsche that fitted the new Group B regulations just established in 1983: the Group B Porsche. The regulations demanded just 200 vehicles for the homologation, that is why Porsche was able to turn the technological knowledge of that time into a super Porsche equally suitable for the race track and for rallies which was the intention of the new racing car series. Apart from the races, the homologation vehicles were also meant to go to private owners for the use in road traffic. The Porsche 959 excelled in all of the tasks. It won the murderous Paris-Dakar rally, prevailed in Le Mans as the first all-wheel drive racer against racers with more PS and delighted its customers with road performances never seen before.

The surprising end of the Group B regulations, enforced by the motorsports authorities after deadly accidents at the World Rally Championship, ended the motorsports career of the 959 before it had really begun. But the about 300 vehicles that were built, still tell the story of a fascinating car that became a celebrated and precious icon over the last years.

Jürgen Lewandowski witnessed the development of the Porsche 959 more than 30 years ago and describes the difficult birth of the super car including the three Paris-Dakar rallies and the Le Mans race. A fascinating boxed set with three volumes on different topics: technical data, history, and a large-format illustrated book that shows the 959 genesis including all derivatives and new photos of the most beautiful specimen. After 30 years, this comprehensive work presents even the minutest details, it comments on events in the past, and contemporary witnesses have their say – all in all it is a literary monument to the Porsche 959.

Carrera 2.7: The Soul of Porsche’s Legendary Carrera 2.7 RS Lives on Within the Carrera 2.7 MFI

The soul of the legendary Carrera 2.7 RS lives on within the Carrera 2.7 MFI

Serious automotive enthusiasts consider Porsche’s Carrera 2.7 RS to be the archetypical 911…and deservedly so. The cars are light, responsive, purposeful and the type 911/83 engine delivers scintillating performance. Over the last 40 years the 2.7 RS has been covered in dozens of books and articles. Yet its successor – a car with the identical engine and similar DNA – remains either unknown or misunderstood even by long-time Porsche enthusiasts. That car is the Carrera 2.7 MFI. This book tells the complete story of these remarkable, unheralded sports cars.

The Carrera 2.7 book has been meticulously researched using the Porsche factory archives, private collections, period documentation and intensive study. The book attempts to cover everything an owner, restorer, historian or enthusiast would want to know about this intriguing 911 variant. Content includes comprehensive discussion of original options, photos of key details, insights into factory production, competition history and a considerable amount of material never before published. Although primarily focused on the top-of-the-line mechanically-fuel injected Carrera 2.7, this book will also prove valuable to enthusiasts of any of the Porsche 911 and 930 Turbo models produced during the mid-1970s.

The blue Limited Edition of 2,500 numbered hardcover copies is offered in English with five-color printing on high-quality paper and enclosed within a protective slipcase.

Amedee Gordini

Amedee Gordini

“This is a story of excitement, laughs, astonishment and anger – a story of the determination of a man with a dream and a passion for motor racing in the big leagues. It is the first time that the history of the always under-financed Gordini racing team has been documented in English, and the first complete story of Gordini himself in any language.
This volume will appeal to new enthusiasts and old hands of Formula 1 and sports prototypes, especially those who have owned a Gordini engined-car. It charts Gordini’s early life and beginnings in motorsport, up to 1969 when Renault took over the Gordini company, keeping his name on all the racing engines until 1986, before finally resurrecting it for a performance version of the Renault Twingo and Clio in 2009.
The book is packed with evocative period images from important collections, supplementary transcripts in English from many contemporary interviews, plus recollections from former employees remembering their time working with Gordini, and an exhaustive set of statistics. All the way it’s a roller coaster of joy, despair, humour, and stunning images. The racing legend of ‘Le Sorcier’ lives on.
